What is a favicon
A favicon is the small custom icon that appears next to the websites URL. The format you save the favicon in is the Windows Icon (ICO) format. In order to create the favicon you need to download a photoshop plug-in. To add a favicon to the page you need to place it in the same directory as your home page. The favicon will show up in the address bar as well as next to the bookmark. The favicon is one more way to ensure site branding.

What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndications. It is currently used to keep users updated in an automatic manner when the content a site has been updated. This is especially useful for blogs, news, headlines, and podcasts. RSS would be good for keeping track of my fellow classmates blog. I can see how RSS would be especially useful for web designers, due to the constant developments in this field. An aggregator is the web applications that updates users of the RSS content.
Deep Packet Inspection
Deep Packet Inspection is when the we monitors go beyond the headers information and inspect the content of the packet. Deep Packet inspection also allows the ISP to monitor the amount of traffic that users are creating. This could be used to determine and scale the charges based on usage. CALEA is the Communication Assistance for Law Enforcement Act. The CALEA allows the for “wire taps” of Internet usage. The problem privacy advocates have with Deep Packet Inspection is that it allows the user to be monitored, flagged and reported on based on usage. Deep Packet Inspection has the ability to monitor thousands of users with minimal effort.
